Expat Guide to Germany: Your Complete Resource!
I’m James and I created this site as a one-stop expat guide to Germany for all you need to know about cost of living, finding a job and apartment, dealing with frustrating bureaucracy and settling into expat life in one of Europe’s strongest economies. Plus a few relevant travel & current affairs articles and links & resources to help you on your way as well as relocation services and “ask an expert” service coming soon.
I would genuinely like to hear from you how I can improve the site and its content to be the premier expat guide to Germany. Please contact us and give feedback what else you would like to see.
In 2006, I swapped England’s postindustrial West Midlands for the beautiful German city of Wiesbaden. Some old habits die hard. Nutella and coffee will never replace a Sunday morning cup of tea and bacon sandwich. My local adopted Bundesliga team are the mighty FSV Mainz 05. They play in red and white so it was kind of destiny. I am both highly organised and hopelessly unpunctual at the same time, which thoroughly confuses the Germans. I can simultaneously think in English and German. When I suggest going for “a beer”, what I actually mean is at least three. I am guilty of having a good moan from time to time about German inflexibility, but after a sunny Summer day cycling through the vineyards of the Rheingau (the home of some of the world’s best Riesling!), all is forgiven and I have to admit that I love living here. I still live in hope that one day in Germany there will be a half-decent Indian restaurant.
Through this site, my goal is to help people relocate with this expat guide to Germany and happily settle in here with the necessary advice and tips to make the whole process run more smoothly.
